Supporters Wanted!
After working with hundreds of group administrators for the past 5+ years, I wanted to write about a question I get asked over and over again.
“How can I get potential supporters to participate?”
And this question is usually followed by
“I’m trying so hard to get people to register and order. I have spent so much time and energy on this program but I’m getting discouraged!”
We often think that task is just too big. You may have dozens or even hundreds of potential supporters. How do you even begin to approach them all? But let’s go back to that elephant analogy from ‘The Importance of Planning for Success’ post by our CEO… It’s like eating an elephant, you just need to proceed one bite at a time.
People that are approached one on one will gain a better understanding of the program. They can ask questions, you can give answers. They can lay out their objections, you can overcome their fears or misconceptions. And most importantly, you can talk about the GOAL of why you are fundraising and how this affects THEM. Make it personal!
So what if you set a realistic goal for yourself to get 3 new ordering supporters each month between now and May. The results are quite amazing!
Here is the premise: Each new member that buys $400 bi-weekly (approx. 3% rebate) earns about $25 per month; so 3 new members will earn approx. $75 for your group every month:
- 3 new members in Feb – will also order in March, April, May, June = $375 for your group
- 3 new members in March- will also order in April, May, June = $300 for your group
- 3 new members in April- they will also order in May, June = $225 for your group
- 3 new members in May- they will also order in June = $150 for your group
Total =$1,050.00
When you break it down into little pieces like this, the task is not that big but the earnings could be. With a little focused effort, you could add over $1,000.00 to your earnings in the next couple of months.
SUPPORTERS WANTED – Go and talk to them one on one and you’ll get them!
